California Wildfires: How to Help

There are two massive fires in both Northern and Southern California right now. The fire near Paradise, known as the Camp fire, has become the most destructive in CA history destroying 6,700 structures so far. The Woolsey fire in Malibu in Southern California has claimed 177 structures and at one point caused evacuation of the entire town. The Hill fire in Ventura County has burned 4,351 acres but it is, thankfully, 80% contained as of today.

I’m sure just like me you know someone affected by these fires. My Chico State roommate’s mother lost her business, and her aunt and uncle lost their homes. Another friend told me his Malibu high school caught on fire, and his parents nearly lost their home.

Meanwhile all of us in smoky Sacramento are feeling helpless and dealing with a bit of cabin fever. So while you’re stuck at home or at your desk, maybe you can set some time aside to help the thousands of people in need. Below are a few vetted organizations that could use your support. If you prefer another org, Charity Navigator is a great tool. Stay safe!
